Not to be left behind by the likes of Nikon, Canon and Sony, it seems Leica is planning to release a new full-frame mirrorless camera of its own.
Japanese rumor site Nokishita has published a set of leaked images and specs of the alleged Leica SL2, a followup to the full-frame mirrorless Leica SL (Typ 601). From an aesthetic perspective, there’s not much to comment on: the design has been rounded out a little bit, and the large unlabeled buttons on either side of the LCD have been replaced by three smaller buttons on the left-hand side:
The majority of the improvements made to the Leica SL2 seem to be on the inside. According to Nokishita, the camera will feature a 47-megapixel image sensor—that’s nearly twice the resolution of the SL’s 24MP chip—4K video with a special “CINE mode,” and built-in WiFi and Bluetooth with FOTOS app compatibility.
That Cine Mode might just be the 24fps Cine4K that was already included in the SL (Typ 601), but hopefully Leica has added something special in the video department:

The current Leica SL (Typ 601) costs $6,000 (although it’s currently on backorder), so we expect the new version to be around the same price point. Which leads us to the obvious question: given the sheer amount of competition in this space, including from other L-Mount cameras like the Panasonic S1R, will anybody be interested in the 47MP Leica SL2?
