Razer’s new DeathAdder Elite is an exceptionally sensitive gaming mouse

Here are a few specs that mean nothing to most, but might matter to you when you’re shopping for the best-specced gaming mouse on the planet:

16,000 DPI, 450 IPS, and 50G acceleration.

Add those together and you get the DeathAdder Elite, which Razer claims is the "fastest, most sensitive and most accurate gaming mouse available today." Tall claims!

There are already a few computer mice in existence with 16,000 DPI (dots per inch, a measure of the fine-grained movements the mouse can detect) optical sensors, but Razer has also boosted the IPS (inches per second, how far you can move in a second without the mouse "skipping") to 450, and the mouse also can handle a 50G acceleration. (Fun fact: 46.2G is the maximum acceleration a human has survived on a rocket sled… it’s a lot.)

For comparison, my own favorite money-is-no-object gaming mouse is the Logitech G900, and it maxes out at 12,000 DPI, 300 IPS, and 40G acceleration. Lame, right?

Well, the thing is that these are just specs, and what really matters is Razer’s final claim: the DeathAdder Elite has a resolution accuracy of 99.4 percent. See, some of these specs are easy to goose with lossy interpolation. Also, gamers rarely if ever use a mouse at its peak sensitivity. But what really matters is the quality of the tracking, and Razer claims to have paid attention to that here. Also, thankfully, there are built-in DPI buttons so you can switch your sensitivity on the fly — which is especially nice when you’re trying to figure out your sweet spot on a new mouse.
