Shirley Curry opens fan mail, then returns to Swindler’s Den
Shirley Curry uploaded her 300th video to YouTube yesterday. Who is she? Well, she’s a little older than most of us.
Referred to as the "Gamer Grandma," Curry, 80, plays a lot of The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim, and we profiled her back over the summer among many other gamers of her generation. And this morning, she popped back in with a return to Swindler’s Den, which Skyrim fans recognize as the lair of the Alik’r who are pursuing Saadia, the tavern server the player encounters early in Whiterun.
"In My Time of Need" is one of the game’s earliest and most unavoidable sidequests, and it also presents users with one of their first moral dilemmas: Is Saadia really a traitor to her people, or are the Alik’r simply vicious killers who should meet the player’s steel?
That’s not why Curry is back, though. There’s a bug that frequently shows Swindler’s Den as not cleared after the mission is completed. So she returned to wipe out some bandits and loot their corpses, even as she fights a pack-rat instinct to take everything.
In the end, young and old, isn’t that how we all play Skyrim?
